FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
|
What should I do before buying a Cavalier?
I recommend that you visit the AKC website and research the cavalier breed. I also suggest
that you look on the Internet about cavalier health issues. I believe it is in yours and the
cavaliers best interest if you are knowledgeable about their problems. Unfortunately every
dog breed has problems, we as cavalier breeders just have the luxury that people have a
done a lot of research on our breed.
How much are your puppies?
My puppies are $1500.00 on a spay/nueter contract.
Deposits for puppies?
I do accept deposits to hold a puppy. They will go fast so deposits are your best chance of
being sure you will get a puppy when you want one. I require a $500.00 deposit to hold a
puppy. If by some chance you do not find a puppy you like you can wait until the next litter
to choose a puppy. If you want your deposit back before you have picked a puppy I will
refund $250.00 of your deposit. The reason I will not refund the entire deposit is because I
have had to turn down other people in order to hold your spot for you. First person to send
in a deposit gets first pick of the litter and so on. Owner reserves the right of pick of the
litter.
Why do the prices of Cavaliers vary?
The prices you will find will vary. I have seen puppies as low as $500.00 or as much as
$5000.00. The difference in prices has to do with the quality of cavalier you wish to
purchase. The puppies you find for $500.00 probably are born from parents that probably
are not marked well or the breeder got for cheap. They may not be AKC registered which
means you are not sure you are getting a full blooded cavalier. They tend to not be the best
of the cavalier breed.I looked for the best quality from the best breeders and continue to do
so in order to be able to provide the best for people like you. People who breed their
cavaliers as a puppy mill sometimes have to sell their puppies for really cheap because of
the mass quantities they have. When you purchase from people like this you run into a lot
of problems. The cavalier will not be well socialized, they may have health problems, again
they may not be AKC registered, they may come to you sick. I on the other hand stay at
home with my cavaliers all day. They play with me all day or at least until I am wore out.
They live inside my home. They are regularly taken to the vet for checkups and shots.
They have a clean environment to live in. They are groomed and bathed on a regular basis.
I treat my cavaliers as I treat my children. When you purchase a puppy from me you receive
their shot records, a puppy pack with tons of information, a beautiful healthy puppy, a one
year health guarantee, and me. I know that sounds funny but if you purchase a puppy from
me I will always be available for any problems or concerns you may have. I stand behind
my cavaliers. Those breeders that sell them for dirt cheap will not. The best thing I can tell
you is that you get what you pay for. If you don't mind buying a cavalier that is not of top
quality with an ethical breeder than yes you can get them for cheap. But as I suspect you
are looking for the best why else would you be looking at a cavalier. I am not saying that I
am the best breeder out there. What I am saying is that you need to make sure that the price
of the puppy is not the sole reason you purchase a puppy from someone.
What makes a ethical breeder?
In my opinion a ethical breeder is a person who truly cares for the cavalier breed. They are
breeding cavaliers not for the money but for the pure love of them. It is someone who puts
the cavaliers best interest first and foremost. What I consider to be the ideal breeder is
someone who stays home with their cavaliers. They give them the love and attention they
need. Being companion dogs that is a lot. They are taken to vet on a regular basis. They
are sound and healthy loving dogs. I would never purchase a cavalier from someone who
works a full time job or has 3 or more breeds they are raising. This to me is someone who is
to busy to give the individual attention a cavalier deserves.
What should I do once I get my puppy?
Make sure you have the puppy checked by your veterinarian within 72 hours. Do not allow
your puppy to be around other dogs until your puppy has all of his or her shots. And of
course love your puppy.
How do I get my puppy home?
I prefer you pick up your puppy. I feel it is a great way to bond with your new puppy. Also
I like to meet the people who are buying my puppies. If it is impossible for you to pick
them up I will ship your puppy to you. All costs incurred for shipping are your
responsibility.
Breeding Rights?
I will not be giving breeding rights to everyone. I sell my puppies on a spay/neuter contract.
On a very rare occasion I may consider it. It is not because I think I am the only one that
can breed them properly. Only because I don't want that added responsibility. Sorry.
How do I pay for the puppy?
I accept money order, cash, or check for deposits. But at time of pick up I do require that
you bring cash. If your puppy will be shipped I need to have the money before the puppy is
shipped. Only because I don't want to chance receiving a bad check.
When do I pick my puppy?
The selection process starts at 6 weeks old. That is when it will be easier to tell what the
puppies will look like. At 6 weeks I will contact all depositors in the order in which I
received their deposits and they will then make their choice.
Guarantee
I give a 1 year guarantee for life threatening congenital conditions verified by your
veterinarian and by mine. I stand behind the quality of my puppies.
You are to never take your cavalier to a animal shelter. If you cannot find someone to take
your cavalier please contact me. If I cannot find someone I will come and get the dog until
a placement home can be found.
